Jacob's Ladder
About
A Jacob's Ladder consists of two electrodes, where a high voltage arc exists between them. The arc rises up the angled electrodes on it's own hot air, getting farther and farther apart until it gets too far to keep the air ionized. The arc gives up and restarts at the bottom where the electrodes are closest. Pictures:
