Downloadable Notes:

This design was based off of the LEGO GumGun. If you wish to build this, please download LDraw and the LDraw model. Then you can hide parts to see underneath. Be especially careful about properly securing the barrel. If you leave out pins, the force of the rubber bands may snap the whole thing in half. Remeber that when you load 16 rubber bands, no matter how small, it will put a lot of pressure on the plastic LEGO blocks. I don't know of any one kit you can use to build this. Good luck and, um, happy shooting?

Loading/Firing

If you are left handed, reverse the hands used for loading. This is designed for right-handed people and may be slightly uncomfortable for left-handed people.

  1. Loop one end of rubber band over the business end of the barrel using your right hand.
  2. Hold the white and blue pieces on the barrel with your left hand. If you don't, the white piece may snap and go flying off.
  3. Pull back the rubber band with your right hand and loop it onto the 16t gear.
  4. Using your left hand, pull back (CW) on the 40t gear.
  5. While pulling back, squeaze the trigger with your right hand until it clicks.
  6. Continue pulling back and release the trigger. You should hear another click.
  7. The 16t gear should have moved back 1 tooth. Go back to step 1 to load another band.

This design has been tested with up to 16 thin long rubber bands. Do not load with medium or thick rubber bands. You can load 2 rubber bands on each tooth. To do this, simply load as you would normally, but after the first 16 simply load another 16 on top of them. They should fire seperately.

To activate the safety, press down on the blue Technic pin and slowly pull back on the trigger until the blue pin clicks into place. Make sure it is all the way in. You cannot fire or load the gun when the safety is activated.

To switch to full-auto mode, remove the black pin closest to the blue safety pin. I don't really like full auto mode because the bands fly off too fast, and it is nearly impossible to stop once started. Always load in semi-auto mode.

Ideas?
  • Loosen white band and hook up a motor to that rod sticking out?
  • Make it weigh less?
  • Increase reliability?
  • Make full-auto mode fire slower?
  • Higher clip capacity?
  • Easier reload?
